No Word Of Budget Breakthrough
There's no word of any breakthrough after President Barack Obama wrapped up separate meetings with Senate Republicans and House Democrats on trying to avert a government shutdown March 27.
House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) (2nd R) speaks during a press conference with (L-R) Rep. Steve Israel (D-NY), Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD) and Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-CA) following a meeting of House Democrats with President Barack Obama
Meanwhile, the two parties have advanced rival longer-term budgets in both houses.
The full Senate could vote next week on a Democratic blueprint that calls for roughly $1 trillion in new tax revenues over the coming decade and slight increases in spending.
