NJ Contractor Gets Probation For Illegal Exports

A New Jersey defense contracting company has been sentenced to two years' probation after it admitted sending sensitive military drawings and specifications to China without authorization.

U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman announced the sentence Tuesday. Swiss Technology Inc. of Clifton is also ordered to pay $1.1 million in restitution to the U.S. Department of Defense.

The government says Swiss Technology had government contracts to make parts for rifles and military machine guns. But instead of making the items in the U.S., the government says the firm illegally farmed the work out to a company in China and illegally sent drawings and specifications there.

The company pleaded guilty in July to one count of conspiring to violate the Arms Export Control Act.

No one answered the phone Tuesday at the company's headquarters.
