What’s surprising here is that no charges were ever filed. Is it not a crime for a student to punch another student on school grounds, especially when said student is with another already causing a two against one situation?

New Jersey has the toughest anti-bullying laws in the nation and if this incident had happened here, I’m told there would have been a thorough investigation by the anti bullying team. But what do you think about the idea of a mandatory punishment of automatic suspension for a student who punches another student on school grounds?

This punishment would cover all districts and would be publicized so that all students (bullies) would know the consequences of their actions well in advance. Further punishment could be added after the anti bullying team concludes their investigation.

You could even use a slogan like, “If you hit, we’re going to hit back. New Jersey schools will not tolerate fighting on school grounds.” Would such an idea make a difference? Would it have made a difference for Bailey O Neil?
