Hanna is an Independent. Bauman is a Republican who would be the first Asian-American to serve on the High Court if confirmed by the Democrat-controlled State Senate. The Upper House rejected Christie’s last two choices.

“These two men will continue or commitment to bring diversity to the court while also maintaining partisan balance,” says Christie says Bauman and Hanna are, “Two men whose careers have been marked by a commitment to public service and a dedication to the law that gives both of them unique perspectives and a great opportunity to make a major contribution to the New Jersey Supreme Court.”

State Senate President Steve Sweeney says, "The Governor has made his nominations, as is his right. At this point in time, however, it would be inappropriate for me to comment further."

Senate republican Leader Tom Kean says, “Governor Christie has once again put forward a pair of thoughtful nominations to the New Jersey Supreme Court. Both Judge Bauman and President Hanna have extremely impressive professional and legal backgrounds, and both received unanimous approval by the Senate to their current positions, a testament to the impressive nature of their qualifications.”
