State police have rescued three people from a vehicle that washed off the road in Absecon on Monday.

Lt. Steve Jones says the vehicle was traveling on Route 30 West in torrential rains and high winds when the distress call was made.

The people inside the car were taken to a home in Pleasantville.

Jones says state and local water rescues have been going on through the day as people are plucked from homes in South Jersey.

The rescue operations will be suspended at nightfall because it's unsafe for the rescuers to remain outside.

State police also reported a National Guard truck hit a utility pole and overturned earlier Monday in Cape May County.

The guardsmen suffered minor injuries.

Jones says no storm-related deaths have been reported so far.
