Did you feel as creepy as I did watching First Lady Michelle Obama hand out the Oscar for Best Picture?  To me it seemed like something out of George Orwell’s 1984.

Michelle Obama Announces the Best Picture Award

Here we are, watching Seth MacFarlane hosting the awards show for the very first time, then they bring out arguably one of the great actors of all time Neptune’s own Jack Nicholson to hand out the award for Best Picture and then out of nowhere, a screen drops down and there’s the First lady, addressing the crowd with her views on the Oscar’s then after throwing it back to Jack for the mundane work of naming the nominees, taking it back to give out the Oscar to “Argo” for Best Picture.

It looked to me like, “you can have your Oscar ceremony, but don’t forget who’s in charge!” What right, other than being married to the President of the United States, does Michelle Obama have to be handing out awards at the Oscars?

Nancy Reagan was married to the President of the Screen Actors Guild as well as a noted actor and never handed out an Oscar. Barbara Streisand, one of the few entertainers who has won an Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Award, and gave a terrific performance of "The Way We Were" in honor of the late Marvin Hamlisch, would have been far more qualified.  I also felt uncomfortable for Jack Nicholson who was reduced to playing second fiddle on his field of play.

If you think this is not about politics, think again. Whenever the first family appears anywhere, it’s about politics. I’m sure not everyone in the room agrees with their politics. Was Clint Eastwood in the audience? I wonder if she would have presented if one of his pictures had won. Now THAT would be an acceptance speech I’d love to see.  What do you think?  Take our poll and let us know your opinion.
