I saw this scene from the movie "Back To School" with Rodney Dangerfield and it kind of reminded me of what's going on in our country right now. The "Super Committee" the President appointed to fix the massive debt problem we have in this county pretty much just threw up their hands this week because they can't come to any agreement.

Half of them are Ivy League grads with prestigious credentials and plenty of time in government. It seems pretty simple to me....STOP SPENDING SO MUCH OF OUR F@#%ING MONEY! But they just can't figure out where to cut without wanting to take more tax money.

Sure there's politics involved here, and not having a (D) or an (R) after my name, I say both parties have been the problem for a long time. However this administration, and in fact this country, and it's various agencies private and mostly public have a growing problem: Installing academics with amazingly impressive credentials in positions where they haven't a clue what they're doing.

For example remember Christina Romer. The President appointed her senior economic advisor. She was an upper echelon academic from UC Berkeley who was supposed to bring her "expertise" to the White House and help the President solve our economic woes. She lasted a little over a year and now she is safely back in her post at UC Berkeley, basking in the glow of her tenure in Washington and her high position at the University, awaiting a lucrative retirement package in a few short years.

The same with Austin Goolsbee the Presidents' former chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors. He left earlier this year too and returned to his post as economics professor at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Don't forget Larry Summers, he was chairman of the president's national economic council. He quit a year ago in order to return to academic life as a professor at Harvard University. The list goes on.

Look for yet another one to bite the dust if Steven Chu has to resign over a recent big grant money scandal. He is the Energy Secretary and Nobel Prize winner in Physics in 1997 for his work in molecular and cellular biology at UC Berkeley. The point here is....We have a bunch of highly credentialed, highly degreed egg heads who haven't really run anything in the real world running things in the highest levels of the most powerful nation in the free world.

Yes that includes our President, who everyone in the media and everyone who didn't look into his background, thought, "well he went to Harvard and was the president of the Harvard Law Review, and he's really smart". Really? Give me any man or woman who successfully runs ANY business or household and has to fend for themselves (private sector), over ANY academic in ANY field to run this country.

Yes even Herman Cain, who's been beat up in the media lately, and who by the way is a rocket scientist and has a couple of degrees, BUT he went out and became a real success in the REAL world. Please don't get me wrong, there are amazing professors in many fields that are vitally important to our country that do great work every day. We NEED them desperately....and we need them to STAY IN THE CLASSROOM!
