We started the week with an array of topics, discussing everything from hunting with Kevin Beetel, to the Hoboken St. Patrick’s day drunken debacle and even NJ's healthcare premiums. Monday was not short of interesting topics.

Hoboken’s St. Patrick’s Day Debacle

Hoboken experienced an exuberant crowd this weekend for St. Patrick’s Day festivities, otherwise known as LepreCon. Although a St. Patrick’s Day parade is not sanctioned by Hoboken’s Mayor Dawn Zimmer, bar owners continue to draw an immense crowd to celebrate the holiday in advance. Public lewdness and public intoxication were in full effect during the celebration, as police officers from other towns were called in to help.

Digital Managing Editor and former Hoboken resident, Chris Swendeman mentioned his his heartfelt concern for friends and family who are officers during Hoboken’s St. Patrick’s Day celebration. “I think it’s ridiculous that I have to send friends who are police officers a note to be safe,” says Swendeman.

An example of the mayhem from this weekend's event is that a female Hoboken police officer, Christine Collins, received three broken ribs at the hands of a former college football player.

One caller says that he thinks the issue is bigger than Hoboken’s Saint Patrick’s Day event; the issue here is the alcohol consumption and the lack of self control.

The question regarding Hoboken’s St. Patrick’s Day celebration debacle is: would they have experienced the same issues if the age of drinking is lowered?

In foreign countries, being an adult constitutes responsibility. If party goers in Hoboken can't behave then they shouldn't be allowed to go the following year. Plain and simple. Listen to my full rant in the YouTube clip below.

Horizon, one of the biggest healthcare insurers in the Garden State, is in the process of implementing a new tiered system for hospitals in NJ.  The issue many have with tiered systems is that they leave out a significant number of hospitals.

Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer for Horizon, Dr. Minalkumar Patel, examines lower premiums in New Jersey and why this plan is important.  “It’s not about us, the hospitals or doctors, it is really about our patients. We have been hearing from our customers that our quality is average at best out of the fifty states. We need to change our models,” says Dr. Minalkumar Patel

President of Holy Name Medical Center, Mike Maron, called in later in the show to discuss it from the side of the hospitals. While Maron says the healthcare system in NJ needs an overhaul, hospitals such as Holy Name Medical Center just ask for "a fair process." Listen to Mike's call below.

Hunter Kevin Beetel: “My Wild Turkeys are 100% Natural”

A professional hunter from Chesterfield, Kevin Beetel dropped by to bring the NJ 101.5 crew some great wild turkey pot pie. Beetel says of his pot pie, “The next time you see a wild bird, you are going to have a flutter in your stomach.” Kevin told Bill that he also shares his love for hunting with his two children.

Although, Beetle has not had luck killing a wild turkey with a bow and arrow, he does admit that he’s killed his fair share of turkeys. Beetle states “the best thing about wild turkey is that there are no hormones or antibiotics – it’s 100 percent natural.” You can watch videos of Kevin Beetel hunting at his website www.goodtimeshunting.com.
