Yesterday we spent some time talking about number 3 on this list. There's research to say a shorter commute makes you more happy than a a bigger house. We took calls from listeners with really long commutes. Some agreed the long commute was hell and was making them very unhappy despite the fact they liked their neighborhood and liked their house. Others said they're used to it. Still others said they wouldn't have it any other way.

The full list came from an article in the science section of the Huffington Post. The brief rundown is as follows.

  1. Exercise more, even 7 minutes can make you happier.
  2. Sleep more.
  3. Shorter commute.
  4. Spend more time with family and friends.
  5. Spend time outside (they say happiness is maximized at 57 degrees Fahrenheit).
  6. Help others.
  7. Practice smiling.
  8. Plan a trip-but don't take one.
  9. Meditate.
  10. Practice gratitude.
