State police say department guidelines may allow troopers to escort a caravan of luxury sports cars on state highways.

That came as top agency officials met Wednesday to discuss a recent high-speed escort that led to the suspension of two troopers.

Lt. Stephen Jones says escorts such as that could be considered for approval under department guidelines, as long as laws are followed. But state police won't release those guidelines, nor would they say whether a review of policies was discussed at the meeting or if any review is under way.

State Police Superintendent Col. Rick Fuentes had said Tuesday that troopers do "hundreds" of escorts annually. But he didn't say whether escorts for luxury cars are included under department guidelines.
