Pennsylvania's top prosecutor has charged a speeding Amtrak engineer with causing a catastrophe, eight counts of involuntary manslaughter and other crimes in a 2015 derailment that came after he accelerated to 106 mph in a 50 mph zone.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Thursday called for a private operator to take over New York's troubled Penn Station, the nation's busiest rail station, where recent derailments and other problems have hampered commuters.
Amtrak CEO Wick Moorman, who offered apologies for the recent delays and issues at Penn Station said commuters should expect "two multi-week outage periods this summer but that significant levels of service will continue to operate in the station."
