The hospital serves children affected by afflictions, such as brain injuries, spinal injuries, premature births, autism, developmental delays and life-changing illnesses.

"Over 22,000 children were treated through the doors of Children's Specialized last year," said Kim Hanemann, Walk n' Roll chairwoman.

The hospital features an extensive outpatient network, specializing in rehab. In fact, the hospital is the largest pediatric rehab system of its kind in the nation.

"It's a New Jersey-based hospital, 12 locations in New Jersey, helping all of our kids and families in New Jersey throughout the state," Hanemann said.

This Saturday, May 17, they host their 8th annual Walk n' Roll, which features 1, 2.5, and 5 mile courses, followed by a carnival for young and old with music, games and prizes. The event takes place Johnson Park in Piscataway.

"We want to have over 2,000 walkers at the event this year," she said. "And we're really on track to raise over $300,000 for the hospital."

Hanemann said the money raised will go towards funding an expansion of their facility in New Brunswick.
