The music of Motown wouldn't be the same without the vocal stylings of one the all-time greats, William "Smokey" Robinson.
Robinson is most notable for being the founder and front man of the group, The Miracles, for which he also served as the group's lead songwriter and producer. Robinson the group from its 1955 inception as The Five Chimes up until 1972 when he announced his retirement from the stage.
Robinson later returned to the music industry as a solo artist the following year and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.
