At the PBA convention in Florida President Anthony Wieners wrote a letter to members explaining his recommendation according to PolitickerNJ.com citing Governor Chris Christie's large lead in the polls. While appreciating Democrat Barbara Buono's support for the PBA over the years "it seems that the Democratic Party is going into this race half-hearted,” and called out party members who have endorsed Christie over their own party's candidate.

"From all appearances, publicly and privately, it seems that the Democratic Party is going into this race half-hearted," wrote Wieners according to the Star-Ledger. "Dozens of local, and some senior, Democrats have endorsed Gov. Christie to date. Private sector labor unions have all but abandoned her for governor, too.

Buono has earned the endorsement of the Fraternal Order of Police while the Port Authority PBA has given its support to Christie.

The PBA endorsed Governor Jon Corzine (D) in 2009.
