NJ Soldier Found Dead in Fort Hood Barrack
A New Jersey solider was found dead in his barracks at Fort Hood.
Army Sgt. Gene Robert Brandes Jr., 28, of Oak Ridge, was discovered unresponsive on Tuesday; his name was released by the United States Army on Thursday.
An investigation into his death is underway but foul play is not suspected according to the Army Times.
The former Morris County resident had served in the military since 2006 and was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 5th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 69th Air Defense Artillery Brigade. Sgt. Brandes was deployed in Iraq in 2007-2008 and in Afghanistan from 2010 to 2011. He had been awarded a number of times including three Army Commendation Medals, three Army Achievement Medals, two Army Good Conduct Medals, an Army Service Ribbon and a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
