New Brunswick's Oktoberfest features interactive kids' games, live music, traditional food and beer — and the must-see stein-holding contest!

Last year's contest attracted 70 participants, so you can bet competition will be steep as heats of contenders work to hold full one-liter steins in the proper position (straight out and parallel to the ground). The winner gets a trophy and bragging rights.

It's the perfect way to make fall memories, and it's all happening from noon to 7 p.m. Oct. 12 at Monument Square Park, 2 Livingston Ave., New Brunswick. Children and families can enjoy the Kinder Platz with lawn games and other activities, pumpkin decorating, a henna artist, and a stilt walker.

Embrace the Oktoberfest spirit by wearing dirndls or lederhosen, sample food and beer (both traditional and craft) from local vendors, and mingle with the St. Pauli Girls. You'll be able to browse the Biergarten, and enjoy a full line-up of music for all ages, including traditional German music.

Stage performances will include Who Brought The DogThe Wet Bandits, and DJ Brian Bratwurst.

This Oktoberfest street fair has been growing in popularity every year. Event entry is free, with food and beverage available for purchase. Visit New Brunswick City Center's event page, where more details will be added as they become available.
