Meet the man with 100 names, 60 Social Security numbers, 22 condom boxes
Harry Jackson is in a bit of trouble. But he's not alone — he's got 99 or so other versions of himself to lean on for support, police say.
Nutley police say that on Dec. 9, they were called to a local convenience store for a report of a man with a "distinct look" who walked with a cane — and who'd made off with 22 boxes of condoms worth nearly $400. They were shown video surveillance, and put out message to surrounding agencies, police said.
The manager told police it wasn't the first time he'd seen such an incident — an unidentified woman had stolen $130 worth of female products just a few days earlier, police said.
While on patrol, officers saw a man walking with a cane and a long green coat, matching the alleged shoplifter's description — and the store manager confirmed it was the same person, police said.
When officers interviewed Jackson, 56, of Irvington, they found he had two active arrest warrants out of West Orange, police said. Then, they found another two warrants out of Millburn under an alias, according to police.
As they kept investigating, they found Jackson had 100 aliases and 60 social security numbers that needed to be checked — and found several more warrants under them, police said.
According to Det. Sgt. Anthony Montanari, when police took Jackson into custody, he seemed to have a seizure — so he was taken to a local hospital, where doctors said he was faking. Then, back at police headquarters, he seemed to have another seizure, and was taken to the hospital again.
Montanari said police transferred custody to the Essex County Sheriff's Office while Jackson remained at the hospital.
On the Nutley charge of fourth-degree shoplifting for the 22 boxes of Trojan condoms, a judge set Jackson's bail at $2,500, police said. Authorities are investigating possible thefts in other jurisdictions.
Police also charged 25-year-old Allison Angelin of Morristown in the earlier shoplifting of feminine products, and she was arrested in Jersey City on Sunday on unrelated charges, police said.
