The Dress – Why are people obsessed with it?

It's the controversy that's torn families and relationships apart. But the real question is why?

This dress has gotten more publicity than Kim Kardashian's behind. It was featured on morning shows and plastered all over the internet. It's become an internet sensation that has divided friends and families alike. "It's just a dress!" you might say. But as the poll on our website shows, there's quite a debate as to the real color of this dress.

But why is it important to any of us? We think there are plenty of reasons, but part of it might have to do with the fact that everyone can have an informed opinion about it without needing to do much research. What you see is all you need to have an opinion on it.

We also think our producer Raquel made a good point about the dress. It's a metaphor for humanity in general: we all have the same thing in front of us, and yet our perceptions of reality are so different. We don't understand how anything can see anything besides what we see, and it's tremendously frustrating! We know we're right, and yet the other person KNOWS they're right. It's a conundrum which is hard to reconcile.
