The more things change, the more they stay the same, Jim always says.

That couldn't be more true than on this week's installment of the Jim Gearhart Show podcast, when Jim was joined by old friend and longtime partner (Jim notes you've got to clarify that term these days) Mike Lavelle, as well as Lavelle's wife, traffic reporter Jill Myra.

Mike ran Jim's board for more than 10 years, after New Jersey 101.5 took on the talk radio format that Jim helped pioneer — the format that made him a radio legend in New Jersey.

It's only moments into the podcast when Jim calls back to one of his favorite clips — when he, Mike and Jill read through an internal company memo, written without a hint of irony, on the long-awaited replenishment of mouse balls."

The giggles were already hard for the gang to control when Jim got up to "if a mouse fails to operate or should perform erratically, the necessary ball replacement may be accomplished in the field."

And they had trouble keeping their cool when Jim talked about replacing balls — or how domestic balls are bigger than foreign balls.

But when Jim told the crew what happens after excessive handling ... well, you'll need to listen to find out.

The Jim Gearhart Podcast is available every week on New Jersey 101.5 and in the New Jersey 101.5 app. You can also subscribe with your favorite podcasting app for iPhones, Android devices or your computer:
