The five second rule seemingly fell out of favor recently with local news blaring out how what falls on our floor can KILL US! Now, a British study, reported by ABC, says that not only does how long the food has been on the floor matter, so does the type of floor it lands on.

The report quotes a microbiology professor as saying the transfer from indoor flooring surfaces to the food is extremely poor. Now, that doesn’t mean you’ll want to eat off your floor, but it does mean you don’t have to stress out over items that hit the deck. Also, it appears that carpet does a particularly bad job of transferring nastiness to the food. Bon appetit!
