Now that the owner of the Taj Mahal has announced that the Atlantic City casino will be closing its doors after Labor Day due to the longest strike in Atlantic City's 38-year casino era.

Now you've gone and done it. By "you," I mean the casino workers who decided to strike because you could not reach an agreement with owner Carl Icahn over health benefits.

The commitment was strong at the beginning, while you banged the drum 24-7 to the tune of solidarity on the strike line. After a while, maybe some of you started getting nervous because you weren't getting paid. So you decide to take your rally to Trenton in an effort to get a bill passed that would allow striking workers to collect unemployment if the strike lasts more than 30 days.

From the outset, it seemed to the Taj Mahal management that the union was hellbent on shutting down the doors of the casino by striking. Well, congratulations! If that was your goal, you apparently have succeeded!

Now you don't have to worry about the NJ legislature passing a bill to allow you to have unemployment benefits while you're striking, now you can apply for them normally because you're going to be out of a job!
