South Jersey Police Chief’s Aide To Get $121K

The confidential assistant to the police chief in a small southern New Jersey town will receive more than $121,000 in unused pay in retirement.

Carl Dillon started as a dispatcher and retired after 38 years with the Little Egg Harbor Township Police Department on Feb. 1.

The 55-year-old had a base salary of $68,596 in 2010. He will receive $95,756 in accumulated sick time, $12,783 in unused vacation time, $11,841 in comp time and $1,009 in unused personal time.

Deputy Mayor Ray Gormley tells the Asbury Park Press the money will  be paid out over time instead of a lump sum.

Senate President Steve Sweeney on Tuesday introduced a bill that seeks to curtail public employees from banking sick leave.
