So when Nicole Polizzi, otherwise known as Snooki, got to meet the governor Friday and shake his hand, their exchange was a bit awkward.

In a later exchange captured on video by the Asbury Park Press  an unsmiling Snooki told Christie that she hoped he would "start to like us." Christie responded, "Well, we'll do our best. After they parted ways, Snooki looked at the camera and said, "He just doesn't like us."

Polizzi later posted a picture of their meeting on the boardwalk on her Instagram page captioned it, "Getting told why we are bad for jersey. Amazing."

Christie has called the show "bad for New Jersey" because of the partying and bad behavior shown on MTV's Jersey Shore for several seasons that drew the ire of some and the tourist dollars of others who came to Seaside Heights to seek out the cast and anything related to the show.

Polizzi's rep later told E! News, "Nicole simply wanted to know once and for all why Gov. Christie dislikes the cast of Jersey Shore," Snooki's rep tells E! News. "The show brought the beloved summer destination a significant amount of revenue during its 6 seasons on MTV. Nicole loves, respects and admires her adopted state of NJ which she now resides in with her family.

She recently offered on her Twitter account to be his "workout buddy" in his quest to lose weight following lap band surgery.

Christie and "Jersey Shore" cast members appeared separately on NBC's "Today" show during filming in Seaside Heights to talk about the state's recovery from Superstorm Sandy. Seaside is where "Jersey Shore" was filmed.

"We were here right after the storm"

The cast noted they have done their part for Sandy relief. "We were here right after the storm," Vinny Guadagnino recalled. "We were doing a big relief effort with MTV. You know, we got to interview real-life people that were here during the storm, and we saw all the devastation. And I can't believe how much it's recovered since (we were) here a couple of months ago. It's amazing!"

"It's a summer place," said Polizzi, "You come with your family, your friends. It's just a good time."
