The Freedom From Religion Foundation thinks that the town of Clayton should change their town motto because it is "too religious." The motto in question calls Clayton "a good place to live and play, work and pray." What's so bad about that? I think they have too much time on their hands.

On Monday, I asked NJ 101.5 listeners if they agree with the Atheist group and, overwhelmingly, they agreed with me and thought the group was making a mountain out of a molehill. One of these callers was even from Clayton!

Aaron called in, who not only lives in Clayton, but he actually helped do some graphic work on the logo. Aaron, an atheist himself, says that we can't discount the town's history with the motto. "We need to get back to having a legacy, we can't rewrite history" he said. The "essence" of being from South Jersey, he pointed out, "is family and positivity," which is what the motto tries to convey. Why get rid of that?

The motto is not the law, they're saying you can pray if you want to. If you don't, who cares? The group references the First Amendment and our constitutional right to freedom of religion. Well as Aaron put it, "the committee is on the verge of self-embarrassment," because that means that I'm free to pray if I choose to!

Aaron wasn't the only Atheist who called into the show in disagreement with the group. Said Brian from Ocean Gate, "they go out of their way to start problems for no reason at all, it just makes the rest of us [atheists] look bad!" Brian said he didn't want to be associated with the Atheist group, because they're taking the views to the extreme.

Listen to the Aaron's full call below.

So what do you think? Should Clayton have to change the town's motto just to appease these people who (if we're being honest) probably aren't actually that offended?
