NEWARK — For the second time in a week a member of the clergy was attacked in Newark.

Michael R. Healy, 32, was arrested on Saturday night for reportedly assaulting a 63-year-old pastor.

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said the two men crossed paths near the intersections of Broad and Court streets when Healy started asking questions about the pastor's religious beliefs. He was arrested and charged with simple assault, with other charges pending according to Ambrose.

Healy was taken to East Orange General Hospital for a psychological evaluation while the pastor was taken to Beth Israel Hospital for what Ambrose described as minor injuries.

The attack on the pastor came one week after an auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Newark was attacked during a mass in honor of former baseball player Roberto Clemente.
