After shooting the manager of the Brielle restaurant in the parking lot early Tuesday morning, Cataldo returned to his home on Bay Point Harbour Road where he engaged police in a standoff for several hours.

Detectives agreed to bring Cataldo a bottle of water, according to the Star Ledger and members of the SWAT team were sent to bring it to him. They saw an opportunity to make an arrest but when they reached for Cataldo, he stepped backwards towards a bathroom, grabbed a handgun and shot at the SWAT team. He did not get a clean shot and was immediately arrested. That shot resulted in four additional murder charges.

Cataldo made his first court appearance before Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Honora O’Brien Kilgallen in Freehold where the additional charges were made.

Sources tell Townsquare Media that Cataldo has a law enforcement background and once worked in the Essex County Sheriff's Department.

He is now being held on $2 million bail for the Ocean County charges on top of the original $1.5 million bail for the Sand Bar shooting.
