Tomorrow, residents of Mercer county will vote on whether or not there should be a non-binding fee for using plastic bags at grocery stores.

If voters say yes to this question, stores would give shoppers the option to pay 5 cents for each plastic bag they used during checkout. In the past, stores have tried to encourage shoppers to be eco-friendly by selling reusable bags. Many stores would offer discounts to patrons who used the recyclable bags.

There are many people who like plastic bags. Although many shoppers won't directly recycle plastic bags, they will reuse them in wastebaskets, as lunch bags, and for other purposes.
