PATERSON, N.J. (AP) -- One man was killed and two others were wounded when shots rang out on a Paterson street.

Paterson police tell NJ.com that officers responding to reports of shots fired in the area of 12th Avenue found 19-year-old city resident Kashan Sumpter on a sidewalk around 4 a.m. Sunday. He was taken to a hospital, but was pronounced dead there a short time later.

The two wounded victims, identified only as 22-year-old men, were driven to the hospital in a private vehicle. One of the men was treated and released, but the other was undergoing surgery.

Further details on the shooting have not been disclosed. Rodriguez did not disclose the identities of those men, and the motive remains under investigation.
