But it's not yet clear what spurred the shooting, which occurred shortly before 10 a.m. Wednesday in Paterson.

Passaic County prosecutors tell The Record that 43-year-old Dennis Gillespie of Warwick, New York was shot inside a parked car. The female victim, identified only as a 31-year-old Goshen, New York resident, was being treated for wounds that were not considered life-threatening.

Authorities would not speculate on why the New York residents were in Paterson.

The slaying is Paterson's seventh homicide of the year, including four this month. There have been 27 shootings in 2015 that resulted in five deaths and at least 29 people wounded.
