NEWARK — A 39-year-old Newark man has been sentenced to 50 years in state prison for sexually assaulting a young girl repeatedly over a period of several years.

Korynn Hunt must serve at least 41-and-a-half years in New Jersey state prison before becoming eligible for parole, under the No Early Release Act, according to Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray. He will then be subject to lifetime parole supervision.

According to the prosecutor, the victim was assaulted by Hunt twice a week for "eight to nine years." Authorities say the victim secretly recorded a 52-minute video of the final assault during which Hunt "not only rapes her but verbally berates her."

On May 16, Hunt pleaded guilty to a 26-count indictment that charged him with multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child and child pornography.

“What this defendant did to this girl is reprehensible,’’ said Assistant Prosecutor Amber Loughran, who prosecuted the case. “He stole her youth and destroyed her innocence. Yet, in the midst of all he did, she was able to confront him. And, today I hope she is able to begin the process of healing and reclaiming her life.’’

Before Hunt's sentence was announced, Loughran read an excerpt from a letter written by the victim, who was too nervous to speak in court, NJ Advance Media reported.

"He would always want me naked. He said it was normal," the letter states, according to NJ Advance Media.

According to the article, the letter states Hunt verbally abused the girl and at one point she took one of his guns. "I held it to my head and desperately wanted to pull the trigger," the victim's letter states.

Authorities say Hunt's attacks on the girl started when she was about 9 years old and continued until she was 15.

Hunt has been lodged in the Essex County Correctional Facility since October of 2014, the prosecutor said.
