Millburn Home Invasion Suspect Had Habit Of Entering Homes Uninvited

Shawn Custis, the man arrested for a brutal home invasion in Millburn attack caught on video may have had a habit of walking into homes uninvited.

A neighbor of Custis’ girlfriend in Dyckman Houses in Manhattan tells the New York Daily News that she twice found him standing in her living room believing no one was home.“I walked out into my living room, and he was just standing there,” Hernandez told The News. “I was scared. Why would he just walk into my home like that? He gave me the creeps.”

The second time her husband was in the shower when he walked in. Hernandez’s husband described him as “suspiciously friendly.”

Custis was arrested on Friday afternoon shortly after the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office announced he was the suspect in the beating of an unidentified Millburn mother in front of her three-year-old daughter.  He is being held on $750,000 bail.

Custis has a long criminal record dating back to the 1990s including 12 felony convictions according to the Star Ledger He served 10 months in jail for series of burglaries and was released in December, according to court records.

The family issued a statement on Saturday thanking law enforcement for their efforts in making the arrest. “We are forever grateful to the incredible team of law enforcement officers for their hard work over the past week. Thanks to these heroes, our family can now begin the next chapter of our healing,” the husband of the woman beaten in the invasion told WPIX TV. “We also want to thank everyone in the Millburn community, the Millburn Workmoms, and those from across the country for the outpouring of support.”
