Perhaps, Jim Gearhart says, he could have been more charitable when he called former New Jersey 101.5 host Craig Carton "a cancer" on the station.

After all, Jim says, he could have followed in the footsteps of Dennis Malloy, who wished Carton's family well even as he speculated whether Carton's buddy, Chris Christie, might have had an idea Carton was about to get slapped with million-dollar fraud charges.

But, Jim says, "Shouldn't that person, who caused the event, the situation, be accountable for their misfortune? And perhaps should have considered (the impact on his family) as a consequence?"

Jim poses the question in latest installment of the Jim Gearhart Show podcast, available here as well on iTunes and Google Play.

It's a softer tone ... slightly ... than Jim took last week, remembering how before Carton left New Jersey 101.5 in 2007, “singled me out for just a blind hatred. He would get on the air and insult me every day." Jim remembers being overjoyed when Carton left — and has been struggling with anger ever since Carton started showing up in the headlines again.

But maybe, just maybe, Carton deserves to be more to be pitied than censured, Jim says. Maybe he's like the monster in Mary Shelly's Frankenstein: "I am malicious because I am miserable."

"Perhaps I should dredge up, out of the depths of my psyche, a little touch of compassion there," Jim says.

That's it's just part of what Jim takes on in the latest installment of his podcast. Check out the full episode below to hear the rest. Email Jim at Jim@NJ1015.com.
