Julie Hermann Meetings Will Go On As Scheduled
Incoming Rutgers Athletic Director Julie Hermann will be keeping her appointments scheduled for this week after all as the university continues to swirl about whether or not she will actually officially serve.
Candace Straight, a member of the university’s Board of Governors who also served on the executive search committee for the athletic director, tells the Star-Ledger, “It is my understanding that Julie Hermann will be on campus next week.” The paper yesterday reported that plans for her to meet with several members of the athletic department and coaches had been postponed.
She will also meet with Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany during his visit to Rutgers this week.
Breaking The Deal?
Meanwhile, USA Today reports that Rutgers is looking at ways to possibly get out of their Memorandum of Understanding contract signed on May 14 in which Hermann can be terminated for cause or receive other discipline for acts “of moral turpitude” or “conduct tending to bring shame or disgrace to the university, or otherwise detrimental to the university’s good name and reputation.”
The university also wants to spend as little money as possible on the athletic department problems that began with the Mike Rice video of him berating members of the mens basketball team. They have already spent $2.3 million on settlements, crisis management and head hunting.
