It is no surprise that technology has changed the way we communicate, but it has also impacted the way people date. In fact, the way singles communicate can say a lot about their sex lives. According to Match.com's annual dating survey, people who use more emojis in text messages are more sexually active.

The survey revealed 54 percent of single, emoji users had sex in 2014, compared to 31 percent of singles who did not, and the more emojis used in a text message, the more sex they were having. The statistics held true for both men and women in their 20s, 30s and 40s who admitted that they use emojis to give their texts personality. It is very difficult to figure out the tone of a text or an email, but emojis help add emotion and feeling to both.

"I think emoji users are more passionate," said Dr. Helen Fisher, biological anthropologist at Rutgers University. "One of the things about the Internet is that it has reduced our ability to express our emotions, to express our feelings or to put personality into our texts and emails. With emojis, we are returning to the ability to really express ourselves. It's very possible that people who are very emotionally expressive are expressive both outside the bedroom through texts, and in the bedroom, so they are likely interested in having more sex with more partners."

People who use emojis are also twice as likely to want to get married, according to the survey.

"These are just people who want to connect," Fisher said.

Women who use "kiss" emojis have an easier time achieving orgasms with a familiar partner, the survey said, which may be a result of the fact that emoji users likely care more about finding partners who are good communicators.

"I would think that the kind of person who is very passionate is going to want to express their feelings in texts, and the kiss emoji is one that is linked to sex, so I think there is a bundle of traits that go together," Fisher said. "People who are drawn to emojis want to express themselves through texts, in the bedroom, and they're going to be drawn to the kind of emojis and pictorial things that express their passion."
