Frank Sinatra turns 100 years old this year on December 12 and despite the face that the Hoboken native left us in 1998 at the age of 82, his memory is still very much alive.

If I say the word “cool” how many names do you come up with before you hit his?

In fact if you’re a fan of the New York Yankees, you can expect to hear “Old Blue Eyes” croon New York New York on your way out of the stadium after every win.

I would say that that if you were to whittle down a field of 64 New Jersey entertainers to one bout for the championship, you’d have to go Frank Sinatra and Bruce Springsteen.

One is the Chairman of the Board, the other is the Boss, Can it be any clearer that that? If those two were to face off in your mind, which one do you think would win?

Sinatra’s career spanned from 1935 when he started working with Harry James, through the bobby sox years, The Capital years, the “Rat Pack” years, the Reprise years and the Tirlogy and finally the Duets album.  His music was from the heart with songs mostly about love and or lost love.

Springsteen’s career is almost  45 years and influenced many a generation with his songs about growin up, the trials and tribulations of the characters he puts in his songs, hoe he sees the world and the hopes he has for it’s future. Many a fan has based their viewpoint in Springsteen’s music.

Both are political with Sinatra meeting President Roosevelt, actively campaigning for Harry Truman,  he was so close to President Kennedy that he organized his inaugural gala, then switched over to President Nixon and later Reagan.

As for Springsteen, In 2004, he endorsed Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry and lent the Kerry campaign his song, “No Surrender.”10 He supported Obama in 2008 as well, even opening the president’s inaugural celebration concert.

While Sinatra crossed over into movies winning an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in From Here to Eternity, as well as countless other films as well as his own Tv show.

Bruce has mostly stayed in music saved for some cameo appearances in films like John Cusak’s High Fidelity

To see either perform live in their prime would be something you’d never forget.

This is not an easy decision and one that I feel you can’t go wrong with either way, but if you were to pit Frank Sinatra against Bruce Springsteen for best New Jersey entertainer, which way would you go?
