NEW YORK —The Kearny woman who fell to her death in the Oculus at the World Trade Center was playing "superhero" moments before on the escalator.

The New York Daily News reported that Jenny Santos, 29, was lying flat on the escalator hand rail as if she were pretending to fly.  She lost her balance and fell 34 feet to the marble floor below, hit her head and died, according to the report, citing a source who had seen video of the incident.

Initially, the Port Authority said Santos, who was riding the escalator down to catch a train with her twin sister around 5:30 a.m., fell when reached for her sister's hat. The report said that the hat was part of what happened but did not elaborate.

Port Authority spokesman Joe Pentangelo said that he hasn't seen the video cited in the report.

"I don't know where that came from. It didn't come from this office. The matter is still an open and active investigation," Pentangelo said.

Santos was taken to Bellevue Hospital after the fall and was later pronounced dead.

According to NorthJersey.com, Santos was in her first year as a physical education teacher at the East Orange Community Charter School and a rowing instructor at the Bergen County Rowing Academy.

A GoFundMe page created in her memory said she "was an amazing daughter, sister, friend, coworker and teacher and deserves to be remembered in that light. When you think of Jenny, we want you to remember her smile, her positivity and her energy; not a headline or a story." Donations will go to pay off Santos' student loan which, according to the page, was her "biggest concern." If the loan is forgiven, the money will be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
