The Press of Atlantic City reports 45-year-old Floribert Nava of Wildwood made her initial court appearance Wednesday, but no plea was entered. She remains jailed on $400,000 bail.

Authorities say the 17-year-old girl had recently given birth to a child that was adopted by a couple. Nava believed the child should have gone to her.

On Friday, Nava allegedly forced the teen at gunpoint to drive her to Philadelphia, where the adoptive family lives. But the plot was foiled when the teen deliberately struck a police car parked on the shoulder of the Ben Franklin Bridge and escaped the car.
