Who Knew Wife Carrying Was a Competition in New Jersey? [VIDEO]

We do this stuff here? A wife carrying contest? According to The Star Ledger this has been going on as a Labor Day tradition in Mount Olivefor several years. Really?

I thought they only did this sort of thing in rural Alabama along with hog calling. They say it's actually a Nordic sport that dates back to when Vikings would steal each other's wives and carry them off over rough terrain. Uh....okay. Can anyone say Olympic exhibition event? Now as if all this isn't embarrassing enough for northern New Jersey, for the first time in its four year history a New Jersey couple didn't even win. Some carpetbagging couple from Pennsylvania took top honors. C'mon New Jersey, you're better than that!
