If there's one idea that ties together the topics in Tuesday morning's show, it's this: Some things are worth spending effort on, and some aren't. And a state sandwich definitely isn't worth our resources, or our money — not when there are so many better places tp use both.

Pork roll? Taylor Ham? How about we solve a real problem?

Our bridges and roads are falling apart. But your elected representative, Assemblyman Tim Eustace, is more focused on whether New Jersey's state sandwich should be said to include pork roll or Taylor Ham.

Really?

Eustace currently earns more than $50,000 a year of your money. He's got a pension coming his way. Staff. And what's he up to? Selecting an official state sandwich.

Don't get me wrong — that's a fun idea. But do we really need an act of the legislature, which could cost tens of thousands of dollars to implement?

Instead, let's use that money to buy Trenton Thunderdogs (which, incidentally, are hot dogs wrapped in pork roll and cheese) and hand them out to the homeless. That would at least get something done.

If you are as outraged as I am, contact Eustace:

Wait, what's in a Thunderdog?

Speaking of Trenton Thunderdogs, when I brought them up this morning, the Capitol Restaurant — which supplies breakfast to New Jersey 101.5 — came through! And Jeff Hurley, chief operating officer of Trenton Thunder, called in.

So is it Taylor Ham in the Trenton Thunderdogs? Hear from Hurley:

Police Unity Tour

We were glad to hear from NJ State Policemen's Benevolent Association President Pat Colligan about the #PoliceUnityTour, a 320-mile bicycle ride in honor of officers killed in the line of duty.

If you're a  regular listener, you know about #BlueFriday, my weekly effort to honor officers who go above and beyond the call of duty. I wanted to remind you about past fallen #BlueFriday Trooper Sean Cullen, a fallen officer who left behind a wife and 10 month old child when he was struck and killed by a vehicle on Route 295 in March.

A worthwhile cause to build awareness to offer direct financial assistance to Cullen's fiancé and son. I encourage you to donate to a GoFundMe page to help the family he left behind, or to donate to the Trooper Sean Cullen Memorial Fund at PO Box 2481, Cinnaminson, NJ 08077. The page has already raised more than $175,000.

Check out these great pictures from the Police Unity Tour:
