Ventnor’s Greg Roman Among Candidates to Be Eagles Head Coach

A few names have emerged that will interview for the Eagles head coaching opening.

The list includes college coaches and NFL offensive coordinators: Penn State coach Bill O’Brien, Oregon coach Chip Kelly, Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter, 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman of Ventnor, NJ and Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians, who was a former head coach at Temple.

A few other names to keep an eye on are Syracuse's Doug Marrone and Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy..

Marrone is "very much on the Eagles' radar" according to reports.  For those not familiar with Marrone, he was the Saints offensive coordinator from 2006-08 and has emerged as one of the hottest candidates for NFL vacancies following his teams impressive Pinstripe Bowl win over West Virginia.

CBS' Jason La Canfora reports the Eagles will interview McCoy who will lead the Broncos offense into the NFL playoffs.

Eagles owner Jeffery Lurie said: the important thing is to find the right coach, not to make the fastest decision, that's our priority."

As for Kelly, sources tell the Philadelphia Inquirer that Oregon's Chip Kelly is the Eagles' "prime target" for their head coaching vacancy but CBS Sports' Jason LaCanfora is "getting the sense more and more" that Chip Kelly will stay at Oregon, spurning NFL feelers.

While those six names seem to be the favorites we already know that Eagles brass is  traveling to Atlanta to interview their offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter along with fellow Falcons assistants defensive coordinator Mike Nolan and special teams coordinator Keith Armstrong.

Roman would also be able to interview this week with the 49ers securing a first-round bye for the playoffs aand has local ties.  He is from Ventnor, NJ and was recently the offensive coordinator at Holy Spirit high school in Absecon.  he was a finalist for the Penn State job last season that eventually went to Bill O'Brien.

He indicated to me in a text message on Monday that he was glad that he was a candidate for the Eagles position.  Saying "thats a good thing," in regard to his name being mentioned for the opening.
