Valentines Day is almost here

Here's a heads up for the most romantic holiday of the year.

Just in case it slipped your mind, Valentines Day is next Saturday.

Here's my advice for those celebrating Valentine's Day.  Whatever you are going to purchase or plan for that special person or people in your life, get it done in the next day or two.

Somthing as simple as a Valentines card will be slim pickens by the end of the week.  About a billion Valentines cards are sold each year.  If you will be ordering an on-line gift, allow enough time for the item to arrive by Saturday.  That romantic Saturday evening dinner will need a reservation.

For those of you with children in school it may not be a bad idea for your child to give their teacher a Valentines card.  Did you know that teachers receive the most Valentines cards followed by mothers, wives, sweethearts, and pets?

75 percent of people who buy flowers on Cupid's day are men.  I'm guessing most of those flowers are roses.  By the way, the red rose was the favorite flower of Venus, the Roman goddess of love.

Here are a couple of things that you probably should avoid giving for Valentines Day.

Please, don't give one of those drug store heart shaped boxes of chocolates.  Go to that neighborhood candy store where they make the confections on premisis.  You'll be able to fill the box with their favorites.  This will show that you really put some thought in choosing your sweetie's favorite kinds of candy.

The same holds true for baked goods.  Go to a real bakery where they can decorate the cake with some romantic words of your choice.  If you're going to order something of this nature, you should probably do it within the next day or two.

Here are a few additional ideas for your Valentines gift.

How about a dinner cruise for a romantic night out?  Or a tastefully engraved jewelry item may be nice.  If you're good at crafts, put together something homemade.  Even if it's not a masterpiece, it would be from the heart.  For her, you could also buy a nice body lotion or bubble bath crystals that may work as well.  For the man, maybe purchase a high end after shave balm.
