Two New Jersey police officers were hospitalized after their cruisers collided as they rushed to help other officers who were pursuing a burglary suspect on foot.

The accident occurred around 12:30 p.m. Monday in Edison.

Township officials say James Roach suffered a head injury in the crash, while officer Brian Castle may have suffered a broken wrist or hand. But further details on their conditions were not disclosed.

Officials say Roach was on patrol when he stopped to join the chase. At the same time, Castle was driving nearby and apparently watching the officers on foot when the cruisers collided, just as Roach was getting out of his car.

The burglary suspect was later apprehended.
