MAPLEWOOD — What started as a wellness check for one person in Maplewood has become an investigation into three possible homicides.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Maplewood Police Chief Robert Cimino said Sunday that firefighters reporting to an apartment for a wellness check found two unresponsive males and an unresponsive female at the scene.

All three were pronounced dead at the scene, and all three are being investigated as homicides. The identities of the three individual were not released and cause of death will be determined after autopsies are conducted.

The investigation is being handled by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force and the Maplewood Police Department. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Prosecutor's Tip Line at 1-877-847-7432.
