The truck, working as part of a beach replenishment project, drove off the road because of brake failure while making a K-turn as the driver was ready to empty his load according to the Cape May County Herald.

Emergency services found the truck and its 42-year-old unidentified operator 300 feet off the shoreline, submerged in approximately four feet of water. Open water rescue personnel were called in to extract the driver from the vehicle. He was pulled from the truck at 9:49 a.m. by rescuers using a rescue paddle board.

The truck was pulled from the ocean around noon on Friday.
