September 12th, 1997 - Stig Anderson, manager, songwriter, and producer for Abba dies of a heart attack. Anderson co-wrote many of Abba's greatest hits such as 'Mamma Mia', 'Dancing Queen', 'Waterloo'.
September 14th, 1968 – While on tour in the UK, Roy Orbison’s house in Nashville burns down, and he losses his two oldest sons to the fire. March 17th, 1978 - U2 wins a talent contest in Dublin. They won $850.00 and a chance to audition for CBS Ireland. The Limerick Civic Week Pop Competition was sponsored by The Evening Express and Guinness Harp Lager.
December 15th, 1956 - A phrase is born when Elvis Presley gave his final performance on a live radio program in Louisiana. At the end of the show, the DJ uttered the now legendary phrase "Elvis has left the building." Presley had made 50 appearances on that particular radio show throughout his career.

1965 - The Rolling Stones help kick off the second season of the music variety show "Shindig!" by singing '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction'. Also performing that night were The Kinks and The Byrds.

1956 - Elvis Presley makes his first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show even though Sullivan had vowed never to allow Presley on the show. He preformed three songs, 'Don't Be Cruel', 'Love Me Tender', and 'Ready Teddy'.
