An Alabama Wal-Mart manager got fired for “gross misconduct” for chasing, and catching, a shoplifter who had a shopping cart full of stolen merchandise. The night manager, Don Watson, chased the shoplifter and got punched for his trouble before subduing him and holding him until the police showed up. That was enough to get him fired.

Wal-mart advises its associates to not chase suspected shoplifters more than 10 feet out the door and since he chased him and subdued him, he broke the rules. Twenty-seven days later he was let go for that “gross misconduct”, and he says that will make it hard for him to find another job; it will totally prevent him from getting a job at another Wal-mart or Sam’s Club. He prevented the story from losing over $1,000 in merchandise and got canned for it. Pathetic.
