A new bill could mean that the smoking age in New Jersey could be raised from 19-21.

The smoking age in New Jersey is already higher than other states - most have designated 18 as the smoking age, while you have to be 19 to smoke in the Garden State. Supporters of the bill are hoping that a higher smoking age will decrease the amount of young smokers.

You can argue that even though the legal drinking age is 21, underage drinking continues to be a problem, and that underage smoking could become a problem as well.

Will raising the smoking age to 21 actually decrease the amount of young smokers?
