The Secret Service is operating under a new code of conduct.   The new rules prohibit agents from drinking excessively, visiting disreputable establishments while traveling or bringing foreigners to their hotel rooms.

Agents who are traveling must comply with the new policies even when they are off duty. They can't drink alcohol within 10 hours of working, and in some cases, chaperones will accompany them on
trips.

Secret Service Director Mark Sullivan is urging agents and other employees to "consider your conduct through the lens of the past several weeks."  Agents learned of the new rules in a memorandum obtained by The Associated Press.

The service is trying to shake off a prostitution scandal that came to light during President Barack Obama's trip to Cartagena, Colombia, two weeks ago.
