School bus fire closes Garden State Parkway in Union (WATCH)
A school bus that caught fire caused big delays on the Garden State Parkway on Thursday afternoon.
State Police spokesman Sgt. 1st Class Gregory WIlliams said seven children and a female driver all got off the small bus safely after she pulled the bus to the shoulder when it started smoking. Williams did not know what district the bus was from.
Video from the scene shows a fully engulfed small yellow school bus parked along the southbound side near Exit 140 for Route 22 in Union. The fire also caused exiting delays from Route 78 east and westnbound onto the southbound Parkway.
As of 4:00 p.m.just the far left lane was open with a multi-mile rubbernecking delay on the northbound side.
