Political Insider and NY Times best-selling author Roger Stone joined me this morning to discuss Donald Trump dropping out of the debate tonight in Iowa.

With Trump reportedly bowing out of the Iowa debate, I asked Stone how this will not only affect Trump, but how it will affect Fox News's and the overall tone of the debate if Trump is indeed a no-show.

"I don't think we'll know the result until next monday night. It's a brilliant move by Donald because it completely dominates the dialogue for the closing days of the campaign." But what Stone does point out, is that Trump and Fox News actually need each other for success. "In a weird way though Bill ,they need each other, as you point out.  Fox needs Trump for the ratings and Trump needs Fox because they reach 8 out of 10 Republican Primary voters.

While Trump has stated that he won't attend tonight's debate, Stone says it wouldn't shock him for "The Donald" to make an appearance. "It's entirely possible. Fox has made it clear the invitation is open and they're in Des Moines. So anything is possible. At this point it appears he's not going. But if you watch what he says very carefully, he continues to say 'I probably won't attend.'"

One of the factors that makes Trump so popular is while every other candidate is scripting their answers, Trump is, as Stone points out, is totally impromptu. "That's the great things about Trump. Everything he does is impromptu. It's totally off the cuff, it's his gut, his instinct. he goes into these debates completely unscripted, un-handled, un-briefed, un-coached. What you see is what you get."
